Autism Support Worker

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Autism Support Worker to join our residential team at The Squirrels in Chilworth. The role involves providing day‑time support to adults with autism and learning disabilities, helping them live independently and engage with the community.

Key responsibilities

• Assist residents with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning and personal care.
• Encourage independence and support the development of life‑skills.
• Accompany residents to community outings, including cinema trips, swimming, local events and occasional night‑time activities.
• Maintain accurate records of health, wellbeing and progress.
• Provide compassionate emotional and physical support in a person‑centred manner.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting adults with autism or learning disabilities.
• Understanding of challenging behaviour and a caring, compassionate attitude.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Flexibility to participate in a rotating schedule that includes early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends.

Required skills

• Experience with day‑to‑day support for individuals with autism or learning disabilities.
• Ability to promote independence while ensuring safety.
• Competence in maintaining accurate documentation.
