Automation Engineer

About the role

As an Automation Engineer you will ensure that Amazon’s automated systems run at peak performance, supporting timely order delivery. You will work on a variety of equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems and material handling equipment across EU fulfillment sites.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot and repair issues with key automation systems.
• Collaborate with the EU Controls network to track Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics.
• Provide data visualisations of troubleshooting outcomes to internal stakeholders.
• Participate in continuous‑improvement projects within the EU Controls network.
• Maintain accurate documentation and backup libraries for all systems.
• Install and commission new equipment in partnership with global colleagues.
• Support other EU sites as needed and share expertise with Engineering Technicians.

Required profile

• Experience working with industrial automation machinery and control systems.
• Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and willingness to lead improvement initiatives.
• Comfort working in shift patterns, including early or late hours, to minimise operational disruption.

Required skills

• IEC 61131‑3 programming and PLC development.
• Interpretation of mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Data visualisation for troubleshooting reports.
• Monitoring and analysis of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics.
• Installation, commissioning and maintenance of automation equipment.
• Troubleshooting of control systems, sensors and conveyor/sortation hardware.
