Automation Engineer

About the role

The company operates a purpose‑built design and engineering facility in South Essex, supplying chemical manufacturing solutions to a range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals. They are seeking an Automation Engineer to join the team and support the design, build and commissioning of PLC‑based control systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC‑based electrical control systems from specifications.
• Program PLCs, touch‑screen interfaces and safety systems.
• Perform fault‑finding and troubleshooting on electrical control, PLC and hard‑wired systems.
• Commission, support and service automation equipment at customer sites.
• Collaborate with electricians, panel builders and other manufacturing teams on projects.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar automation role within a manufacturing environment.
• Understanding of PLCs and control panels in a programming and documentation context.
• Experience working with electrical control panels in an automated setting.
• Qualified electrical apprentice or equivalent background.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
