Automation Engineer

About the role

Proman UK is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join its Middleton site. You will lead continuous‑improvement projects, support shift engineers, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimise automated processes in a fast‑moving consumer goods environment.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, design and deliver automation improvement projects that boost efficiency, safety and productivity.
• Provide technical support to shift engineers, troubleshooting PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
• Work with cross‑functional teams to develop and implement automated solutions aligned with business goals.
• Coach engineers by sharing best practices in automation and control.
• Maintain and upgrade Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI/SCADA programs.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions for automation issues.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and company policies.
• Document technical specifications, SOPs and system configurations.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification in Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics or a related field.
• Proven experience in automation engineering within food manufacturing or FMCG.
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional team.
