Backend Engineer – London

About the role

As a Backend Engineer at nsave, you will help build and scale the core infrastructure that powers our fintech platform. Reporting to the CTO and working closely with the CEO and engineering team, you will design resilient, high‑performance systems that serve thousands of users across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and own critical subsystems such as service architecture, reliability, build & release pipelines, security, and integration with compliance and banking services.
• Proactively improve system compliance and health by identifying weak spots in code and infrastructure and prioritising remediation projects.
• Adopt a user‑centred mindset, responding quickly to changing requirements in a fast‑moving environment.
• Scale the engineering team by driving best‑practice adoption, interviewing candidates, defining new processes, and supporting teammates.

Required profile

• Broad experience across platform and infrastructure functions, including backend architecture, databases, site reliability, infrastructure as code, and continuous deployment.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with a focus on clean code, layered abstractions, and trade‑off analysis.
• Team‑oriented attitude, caring about operational health and enabling rapid iteration.
• Business‑driven decision making, balancing speed and quality.
• Comfortable designing secure systems for regulated financial services.
• Fintech, startup, or regulated‑environment experience is a plus.
