Backend Engineer – Node.js/Python + TypeScript (Hybrid, London)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a fast‑growing, technology‑driven startup that is reshaping personalised consumer experiences. The role is hybrid, with three days a week in a Central London office and two days remote, and focuses on building reliable, scalable services that power the core platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop APIs, services and data models for consultations, prescriptions, subscriptions and order generation.
• Own backend features from concept through production, ensuring reliability, scalability and maintainability.
• Write clean, well‑tested code that is easy for other engineers to understand and extend.
• Collaborate with product, operations and clinical stakeholders, documenting decisions via PRs and technical docs.
• Contribute to React‑based frontend features when needed to deliver end‑to‑end customer experiences.
• Maintain high accuracy and reliability for systems that directly impact customer treatments and orders.

Required profile

• Solid commercial experience building production backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript (or Python).
• Strong understanding of data modelling, API design, testing practices and building maintainable software at scale.
• Defensive coding mindset with awareness of real‑world impact of defects.
• Ability to work closely with engineers, product teams, operations and clinical stakeholders.
• Growth mindset; typically 3–6 years of software engineering experience, though depth of skill is valued over years.
