Band 5 Oncology Staff Nurse (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Join a dynamic acute oncology ward (Ward 622) as a Band 5 Staff Nurse. You will provide high‑quality care to patients undergoing oncology or haematology treatment, working within a 32‑bed environment that includes both acute and emergency admissions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care in line with the NMC Code and current clinical guidelines.
• Collaborate with healthcare assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, medical team, ward sisters and the ward manager to ensure safe, patient‑centred care.
• Participate in audits, governance initiatives and represent the ward at multidisciplinary meetings.
• Supervise, mentor and assess the competence of junior staff, unregistered nurses and students as required.
• Maintain mandatory and statutory training, and keep clinical competencies up to date.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse eligible to practice on the NMC register.
• Motivated, compassionate and committed to continuous service improvement.
• Willingness to develop oncology expertise through provided training and university courses.
• Ability to respond promptly to patient, relative and carer concerns.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Standards.
• Competence in delivering evidence‑based nursing care.
• Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff (preferred but not mandatory).
