Basic Skills Development Manager – Army Training Centre

About the role

The Basic Skills Development Manager will lead the provision of English, Maths and Adult Learning Needs (ALN) support for trainees at the Army Training Centre Pirbright. Reporting to the Commanding Officer, the role ensures that functional‑skill programmes meet national accreditation standards and Army requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and diagnose individual trainees' English and Maths needs.
• Design, deliver and evaluate English and Maths programmes, producing Individual Learning Plans.
• Organise, manage and maintain teaching resources and provision across the centre.
• Liaise with external authorities and Functional Skills specialists to keep provision up‑to‑date.
• Coordinate quality assurance for internal and external providers.
• Provide Specific Learning Differences advice in line with policy.

Required profile

• Experience delivering English and Maths functional‑skill programmes.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and national accreditation standards.
• Ability to assess learner needs and develop tailored learning plans.
• Strong coordination and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
