Behavior Mentor – 1:1 Support for SEMH Pupils

About the role

We are seeking a Behaviour Mentor to provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at a specialist school in Hackney. The role starts in September 2026 and is contract‑based, offering the chance to make a positive impact on pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream settings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individualized support to pupils with SEMH needs, both one‑to‑one and in small groups.
• Help de‑escalate challenging situations and maintain a calm learning environment.
• Collaborate with the school’s leadership team to implement solution‑focused strategies.
• Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and promote positive behaviour.
• Participate in training and professional development sessions offered by the school.

Required profile

• Experience or background in youth work, sports coaching, or a related field.
• Positive, resilient attitude with strong relationship‑building skills.
• Commitment to supporting children affected by emotional trauma or mental health challenges.
• Ability to work full‑time on a contract basis.
