Behavior Support Worker – SEMH Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to join our SEMH/EBD specialist SEN school in Sutton. The role involves providing consistent, compassionate support to children aged 4‑16 who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Support students with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom.
• Manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviour using calm, confident techniques.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor for hard‑to‑reach young people.
• Deliver targeted interventions and support strategies in collaboration with teaching staff.
• Work closely with external professionals and community outreach programmes.

Required profile

• Strong relationship‑building skills with vulnerable youth.
• Experience in mentoring, youth work, counselling, or similar support roles.
• Ability to provide structure, boundaries, and genuine care in an urban setting.
• Team‑player with a proactive, resilient mindset.
