Behaviour Mentor

About the role

The Behaviour Mentor works within the Student Experience directorate to ensure students feel safe, supported and empowered. As part of the Safeguarding and Wellbeing team, you will respond to emerging concerns, assess risk and deliver timely interventions that promote positive behaviour and personal development.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with students, especially those at risk, to encourage engagement and confidence.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality and progress of at‑risk learners and take appropriate action.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, Learning Managers and families to provide consistent support.
• Respond to behavioural or wellbeing concerns, escalating safeguarding issues when required.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
• Deliver restorative conversations and support the creation of behaviour plans.
• Liaise between students, staff and external agencies, signposting to internal support services.
• Promote an inclusive, positive learning environment across Level 1 provision.

Required profile

• Compassionate, resilient and proactive with a genuine commitment to young people.
• GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
• Level 2 qualification in a relevant field or willingness to work towards it.
• Experience supporting young people, particularly those with social, emotional or mental health needs.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
