Behaviour Mentor – Secondary School (Islington)

About the role

A mainstream secondary school in the London Borough of Islington is seeking an experienced Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral team from September. The role focuses on supporting KS3 and KS4 students who need additional behavioural, emotional and pastoral assistance to engage fully with their education.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions for students with challenging behaviour.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, Heads of Year and safeguarding staff to implement behaviour support strategies.
• Help students develop positive relationships and appropriate learning behaviours.
• Monitor progress and adjust support plans in line with individual needs.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour.
• Experience working with pupils who have Special Educational Needs such as Autism, ADHD or SEMH is highly desirable.
• Calm, resilient, empathetic and confident in building positive relationships.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary pastoral team.

Required skills

• Behaviour support planning and delivery.
• Understanding of SEN frameworks and safeguarding procedures.
• Effective communication with students, staff and families.
