Behaviour Mentor – SEMH & SEND (Brighton)

About the role

The Behaviour Mentor will work with learners aged 11‑18 who have SEMH, ADHD, SEND and other emotional or behavioural challenges. Based in Brighton, you will help young people rebuild confidence, improve engagement and develop the skills needed for positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group (up to 8) tailored support.
• Build trusting, professional relationships with learners.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.
• Apply de‑escalation and positive behaviour support strategies.
• Support delivery of vocational and practical learning activities.
• Create a safe, structured, inclusive learning environment.
• Encourage confidence, resilience, independence and decision‑making.
• Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals to monitor learner progress.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a behavioural, pastoral or SEND setting.
• Demonstrated ability to support learners with SEMH, ADHD, SEND or similar needs.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Understanding of positive behaviour support and de‑escalation techniques.
• Calm, consistent and resilient approach to challenging behaviour.
• Trauma‑informed, patient and relationship‑led mindset.

What we offer

• Full‑time, permanent, term‑time only contract.
• Salary £21,731 – £24,195 per annum plus up to £2,500 performance bonus.
• Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑3:30 pm schedule.
• Training start 24 August 2026, learner start September 2026.
