Behaviour Mentor – SEMH Teaching Assistant (Ages 11‑16)

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join our SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) teaching team in East Acton. The role supports pupils aged 11‑16 who experience complex behavioural challenges and additional SEND needs, helping them achieve positive outcomes in a specialist secondary setting.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students with behavioural, emotional and mental health difficulties.
- Implement personalised behaviour plans and de‑escalation strategies under the guidance of senior staff.
- Collaborate with teachers, educational psychologists and allied professionals to monitor progress and adapt interventions.
- Assist with classroom management, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records of student behaviour, incidents and interventions.
Required profile
- Experience working with young people (11‑16) who have SEND, autism, ADHD, sensory processing or trauma‑related needs – paid or voluntary experience is welcomed.
- Ability to build trusting relationships and communicate effectively with pupils, families and staff.
- Commitment to safeguarding and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
- Enthusiasm for supporting the social and emotional development of adolescents.
Required skills
- Understanding of SEMH principles and behaviour management techniques.
- Familiarity with SEND frameworks and multi‑disciplinary collaboration.
