Behaviour Mentor – SEMH & Vocational Learning

About the role

The Behaviour Mentor will work within a specialist vocational education setting, supporting learners aged KS3‑KS5 who have SEMH, ADHD, SEND, emotional or behavioural needs, or a history of trauma. The role focuses on rebuilding confidence, developing resilience and re‑engaging students with practical, vocational learning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group (up to eight) support using positive behaviour management techniques.
• Implement de‑escalation strategies to maintain a safe and structured learning environment.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt vocational activities to individual learner needs.
• Monitor progress, record observations and contribute to personalised learning plans.
• Participate in ongoing CPD and share best practices with the wider team.

Required profile

• Experience in youth work, alternative provision, behaviour mentoring, learning support, the Armed Forces or Cadet Forces.
• Ability to work effectively with learners who have complex emotional and behavioural profiles.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to safeguarding.
• Enhanced DBS clearance, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

What we offer

• Salary between £21,731 and £24,195.50 per annum.
• Up to £2,500 annual performance bonus.
• Full‑time, term‑time contract (Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑3:30 pm).
