Behaviour Mentor – Specialist SEMH School (Preston)

About the role
We are looking for a resilient and empathetic Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Preston. The role supports young people aged 10‑19 with complex emotional and behavioural needs, helping them re‑engage with learning and transition to adulthood.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group mentoring for students with SEMH needs.
- Use positive behaviour management and de‑escalation techniques to maintain a calm learning environment.
- Build trusting relationships to support personal development and emotional regulation.
- Assist older pupils with vocational pathways, life‑skills training and post‑16 transition planning.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral leads and external agencies to monitor progress.
Required profile
- Proven experience supporting children or young adults with challenging behaviour, SEMH, or in a special school setting.
- High emotional resilience, patience and strong de‑escalation abilities.
- Willingness to hold a valid Enhanced DBS (or obtain one through PAYE).
Required skills
- Positive behaviour management techniques.
- De‑escalation strategies.
