Behaviour Support Mentor

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Mentor to join a secondary school in Middleton, Rochdale. The role involves providing one‑to‑one support to a student with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them to engage positively with learning and manage challenging behaviours.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver consistent 1:1 mentoring and emotional support throughout the school day.
• Implement and monitor behaviour support plans under the guidance of the SENCO and Behaviour Lead.
• Use de‑escalation and restorative approaches to manage challenging situations.
• Build trusting relationships that promote self‑confidence and emotional regulation.
• Communicate regularly with teachers, pastoral staff and parents/carers to track progress.

Required profile

• Experience working in a school or educational setting.
• Background supporting young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Strong interpersonal and behaviour management abilities.
• Resilience, patience and a calm, nurturing approach.
• Experience in Alternative Provision or Pupil Referral Unit is desirable.

Required skills

• Team Teach or similar behaviour management training (advantageous).
