Behaviour Support Mentor – Primary School (Chard)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Mentor to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Chard. This full‑time, term‑time position provides one‑to‑one support for a primary‑aged pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who presents challenging behaviour.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 support to help the pupil stay regulated, engaged and ready to learn.
• Implement personalised behaviour plans and strategies.
• Promote emotional development using trauma‑informed approaches.
• Collaborate closely with class teachers, the SENCO and external professionals.
• Create a safe, inclusive environment that encourages progress.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children with behavioural needs, SEN, SEMH or similar.
• Calm, nurturing and patient attitude.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation abilities.
• Ability to build rapport quickly while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willingness to obtain) and right to work in the UK.
