Behaviour Support Worker / SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role

Prospero Teaching is partnering with a primary Pupil Referral Unit in South Manchester to hire a Behaviour Support Worker / SEN Teaching Assistant from September 2026. The role supports pupils who have been excluded or struggle to access mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional or social needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to help pupils engage in learning and regulate emotions.
• Assist in managing challenging or high‑risk behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.
• Build strong, professional relationships with pupils.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, SEN professionals and external agencies to promote pupil development.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH, SEN or in a PRU/youth setting (advantageous).
• Calm, patient and resilient approach, able to stay composed in difficult situations.
• Confidence in setting boundaries and consistently following behaviour management plans.
• Strong communication skills, flexibility and a commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
• Background in sport, youth work or mentoring is desirable.

• Competitive weekly rate of GBP 500‑550, dependent on experience.
• Long‑term temporary contract with the possibility of permanent placement.
• Start date: 01 September 2026.
• On‑site work in South Manchester (M12).
