About the role
We are seeking a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support pupils who find school life challenging in a secondary school in Barking and Dagenham. The role focuses on providing calm, consistent support to help students manage frustration, make positive choices and re‑engage with learning.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support for pupils experiencing behavioural or emotional difficulties.
- Act as a calming presence during moments of dysregulation and assist students in resetting.
- Collaborate with the pastoral team, SENCO and class teachers to ensure consistent approaches.
- Encourage confidence, responsibility and positive coping strategies.
- Celebrate small achievements and reinforce progress.
Required profile
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond thoughtfully.
- Experience in youth work, mentoring, SEN, SEMH, PRU or related settings (preferred).
- Strong empathy balanced with clear boundaries.
- Commitment to building trusting, long‑term relationships with students.
Required skills
- Understanding of behavioural and emotional support strategies in a school setting.
