Benefits Officer – Housing Benefit (Full‑time)

About the role
This permanent, full‑time position is within the Housing Benefit Team of Hull City Council. You will work 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, processing housing benefit and council tax reduction claims for local residents.
Key responsibilities
- Gather evidence and calculate entitlement for rental costs and council tax reduction.
- Process new claims and changes in circumstances in line with Housing Benefit regulations.
- Access the DWP CIS system to retrieve customer benefit information.
- Issue decision letters promptly and accurately.
- Communicate with customers via telephone, email and written correspondence.
Required profile
- Basic knowledge of welfare benefits and council tax support schemes.
- Strong ICT proficiency and ability to work under pressure.
- Capability to meet individual targets and contribute to team performance.
- Experience dealing with vulnerable service users and their families.
