Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) – HCPC Registered

About the role
We are seeking an HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) to join our regulated clinical laboratory in Milton Keynes. You will contribute to high‑quality diagnostic services, ensuring accurate and timely test results that support patient care.
Key responsibilities
- Perform analytical testing, validation, and processing of patient samples.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including analysers.
- Process urgent, routine, and specialist investigations within agreed turnaround times.
- Review and authorise results in line with SOPs, competency requirements, and quality standards.
- Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS and other laboratory quality standards.
- Ensure accurate record‑keeping and full sample traceability.
- Collaborate with clinicians, nurses and multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.
Required profile
- Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- IBMS‑accredited degree.
- Experience installing and validating analysers (e.g., Beckman Coulter DXI9000 or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a clinical pathology or diagnostic laboratory.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing processes, quality standards and accreditation requirements.
- Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational abilities.
