Bookkeeper (6-month temporary)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, detail‑oriented Bookkeeper to support a well‑established public‑sector organisation in Brislington, Bristol. This is a six‑month temporary position focused on maintaining accurate financial records and supporting month‑end and year‑end processes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintaining the organisation's financial records and accounting systems
• Processing purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions
• Raising invoices and processing supplier payments
• Performing bank reconciliations and control account reconciliations
• Managing employee expense claims and credit card transactions
• Assisting with cash flow monitoring and financial reporting
• Supporting month‑end and year‑end finance processes
• Processing journals, accruals and prepayments
• Maintaining accurate VAT records and supporting VAT returns
• Assisting with audit preparation and responding to information requests
• Ensuring compliance with internal controls, financial regulations and public sector procedures

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Bookkeeper, Finance Officer, Accounts Assistant or Assistant Accountant role
• Strong double‑entry bookkeeping knowledge
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
• Proactive attitude with a commitment to accuracy
