Bookkeeper and Tax Associate

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper and Tax Associate to support a growing accountancy practice in Hertfordshire. The successful candidate will work autonomously, delivering high‑quality bookkeeping, tax compliance and client‑focused service.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare self‑assessment tax returns and corporation tax computations.
• Handle VAT returns for a portfolio of clients.
• Assist with payroll processing and statutory submissions as required.
• Maintain accurate financial records and perform regular bank reconciliations.
• Support month‑end and year‑end accounts preparation.
• Use Xero, QuickBooks or Sage to manage client financial data.
• Provide general accounts and tax‑related assistance to the wider team.

Required profile

• Proven bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice.
• Strong knowledge of UK tax compliance, including VAT and self‑assessment.
• Ability to work independently and meet competing deadlines.
• Professional communication style with a client‑focused approach.
