Bookkeeper

About the role

A respected accountancy practice in Cornwall is looking for a Bookkeeper to join its friendly, supportive team. Working closely with the accounting department, you will ensure accurate bookkeeping, VAT processing and high‑quality client service.

Key responsibilities

• Process payments, invoices and receipts.
• Compile financial data into accounting software.
• Prepare financial statements showing income and expenditure.
• Verify accounts and flag errors to the accounting team.
• Support accountants in the preparation of client accounts.
• Carry out weekly and monthly bookkeeping for a variety of clients.
• Maintain accurate client records.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Liaise with HMRC when required.
• Communicate with clients to resolve queries.

Required profile

• AAT‑qualified Bookkeeper (preferred from an accountancy practice but not essential).
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping processes and VAT.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Self‑motivated, organised and detail‑focused.
• Confident communicator with clients and HMRC.

Required skills

• Xero (essential).
• DEXT.
• TaxCalc.
