Bookkeeper – Manage 30 Client Portfolio

About the role

An established and well‑respected accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join its friendly team in Canvey Island. You will manage a dedicated portfolio of around 30 clients across a wide range of industries, providing high‑quality bookkeeping support. This varied role offers exposure to different accounting software, client requirements and compliance areas, ideal for someone who enjoys building long‑term client relationships and delivering exceptional service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of approximately 30 bookkeeping clients.
• Process day‑to‑day bookkeeping for businesses across multiple sectors.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time.
• Complete CIS returns where required.
• Support clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance.
• Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and Microsoft Excel.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information, answer queries and resolve bookkeeping issues.
• Work closely with partners to deliver an efficient service across client portfolios.
• Handle a varied workload, supporting clients of different sizes with differing bookkeeping requirements.
• Ensure work is completed accurately and in line with deadlines.

Required profile

• Previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice.
• Good working knowledge of VAT and CIS.
• Experience with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
• Confident using QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong client relationships.
• Able to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.
• Self‑motivated with a proactive and reliable approach.
