About the role
The Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies at Durham University is seeking a Bridging Fellow to join the Inventing Futures research programme, focusing on early modern Italian studies. The Fellow will receive tailored support, protected research time and a range of academic opportunities to develop their career.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct original research in early modern Italian literature, history or culture within the Inventing Futures framework.
- Collaborate with senior researchers, including Barker Senior Research Fellows, and with colleagues from other institutions.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary projects addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- Participate in seminars, workshops and public engagement activities linked to the Institute’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Produce scholarly outputs such as journal articles, conference papers and research reports.
Required profile
- Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in early modern Italian studies or a closely related field.
- Strong research track record and a clear interest in interdisciplinary, future‑oriented scholarship.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
Required skills
- Expertise in early modern Italian language, literature or cultural history.
- Proficiency in academic research methods and scholarly writing.
