About the role
We are seeking a dedicated British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant secondary school in Redbridge. This full‑time position supports deaf and hearing‑impaired pupils, helping them access the curriculum and thrive in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide in‑class BSL support to students, ensuring full participation in lessons.
- Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver differentiated learning activities.
- Assist in preparing accessible teaching materials and resources.
- Support pupils’ emotional, social and academic development.
- Work closely with the SENCO and other support staff to implement individual education plans.
- Promote an inclusive classroom culture and encourage positive peer interactions.
Required profile
- Proficiency in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred).
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to diverse learning needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role is advantageous.
