BSL Teaching Assistant – Specialist Deaf Primary School

About the role

We are looking for a qualified BSL Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist primary school in Camden. The role supports deaf pupils aged 4‑11, ensuring they can fully participate in classroom activities and develop confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support to deaf pupils throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
• Interpret and sign classroom instructions, discussions, and learning activities using British Sign Language.
• Collaborate with teachers to deliver accessible and engaging lessons.
• Assist with speech, language and communication development alongside specialist professionals.
• Promote a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Required profile

• Minimum BSL Level 2 qualification (essential).
• Previous experience working with children, preferably in a primary, SEN or specialist setting.
• Confident use of BSL within a classroom context.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, caring and proactive attitude towards supporting learners.

Required skills

• British Sign Language (BSL) proficiency at Level 2 or higher.
• Experience supporting deaf or special‑needs pupils.
