Buildings and Facilities Manager

About the role

Cambridge Muslim College seeks an experienced Buildings and Facilities Manager to take full operational and strategic responsibility for its estate. You will oversee the main campus in central Cambridge as well as a portfolio of residential properties, ensuring the environment supports the College’s academic mission.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and off‑site residential properties.
  • Lead health and safety, statutory compliance and risk management across the estate.
  • Oversee contractors, service contracts and procurement activities.
  • Direct capital projects, property acquisitions and long‑term estate development.
  • Administer the facilities and estates budget and financial processes.
  • Guide interior design decisions and uphold quality standards for College spaces.
  • Line‑manage the Facilities Assistant and Facilities Coordinator.

Required profile

  • Proven experience in facilities management, preferably within an educational or charitable setting.
  • Background in property acquisition, estate development or delivery of capital projects.
  • Experience handling planning applications and regulatory approvals such as HMO licensing.
  • Ability to work with architects, surveyors, solicitors and other professional consultants.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation (Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities and capacity to manage a varied workload.
