Business Development Executive – Commercial Insurance

About the role

Join a respected commercial insurer in Colchester as a Business Development Executive. You will focus on generating new business opportunities and building relationships with local companies in the commercial insurance market, receiving full training and support.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively generate new business opportunities with local companies.
• Target and engage businesses to uncover insurance needs.
• Build a consistent pipeline through outbound calls, referrals, introductions and networking.
• Book and attend client meetings (phone, video and face‑to‑face) to complete fact‑finds and understand risk.
• Prepare and deliver professional proposals and presentations.
• Handle objections, negotiate and convert opportunities into long‑term client relationships.
• Progress, with training and mentoring, into managing your own portfolio of clients.

Required profile

• Confident, professional communicator who builds rapport quickly.
• Proactive and resilient, comfortable making cold calls and creating momentum.
• Interest in commercial insurance and a genuine desire to build a career in the sector.
• Target‑driven mindset with pride in doing things properly.
• Attitude, energy and willingness to learn are essential; any exposure to commercial insurance is helpful.
