Business Development Manager – Engineering Consultancy

About the role

Our client, a respected engineering consultancy, is expanding and seeks an experienced Business Development Manager to drive profitable new business. You will shape the role, build client relationships and support the company’s growth on a full‑time or part‑time basis.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new clients in target sectors and track early‑stage project opportunities.
• Lead and coordinate responses to framework and tender opportunities.
• Prepare capability statements, fee proposals and supporting bid information with directors and team leaders.
• Plan and conduct regular client visits and networking activities.
• Gather and share market intelligence on competitors, framework renewals and future opportunities.
• Check staff capacity with team leaders and set realistic timescales for new work.
• Maintain and update marketing materials, website content, case studies and project profiles.
• Provide content ideas and case studies for social media platforms such as LinkedIn.

Required profile

• Previous business development, work‑winning or client‑facing experience within construction, engineering or property.
• Good understanding of civil, structural or geotechnical engineering procurement and delivery.
• Proven track record of developing client relationships and winning work, including frameworks and competitive tenders.
• Commercial mindset with awareness of fee setting, margins and profitable work.
• Confident representation of the company at all levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain technical services clearly.
• Strong organisational skills to manage a pipeline of opportunities and meet bid deadlines.
