Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding

About the role

Our client, a well‑established independent freight forwarder with over 40 years of reputation, is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with a hunter mentality to identify, develop and win profitable new customers.

Key responsibilities

• Identifying and developing new business opportunities across the freight forwarding market.
• Generating own leads and building a sustainable sales pipeline.
• Winning profitable new customers through a consultative, solutions‑led approach.
• Managing the full sales process from initial contact to commercial negotiation and close.
• Collaborating with the operations team to ensure smooth handover of new accounts.
• Maintaining strong understanding of market conditions, customer requirements and competitor activity.

Required profile

• Proven track record of winning new business within freight forwarding.
• Strong knowledge of the freight forwarding industry and commercial awareness.
• Ability to generate leads and build a pipeline independently.
• Existing network of customer relationships or opportunities is advantageous.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship‑building skills.
• Solutions‑led sales approach rather than competing on price.
• Self‑motivated and able to work effectively from home.
• Experience in deep sea container freight, imports or project freight is a plus.

What we offer

• Basic salary £45,000‑£55,000 per year, dependent on experience.
• 5‑7% commission on gross profit.
