Business Development Manager – General Cargo

About the role

We are partnering with an expanding client in the general cargo sector who need a proactive Business Development Manager to grow their commercial portfolio. The role focuses on building relationships with existing cargo customers and generating new business opportunities across the South East England region.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily interactions with general cargo customers, ensuring high service standards and timely responses.
• Support onboarding of new customers and coordinate operational requirements with internal teams.
• Develop and maintain account management plans and monitor service performance.
• Identify, qualify and pursue new commercial leads through networking, market insight and industry events.
• Prepare proposals, tenders and customer presentations, gathering operational and financial data for business cases.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and produce regular reports on market activity and customer performance.
• Assist in commercial project delivery by coordinating tasks and tracking progress.

Required profile

• Proven experience in account management or business development within a commercial environment.
• Background in logistics, supply chain or shipping is preferred.
• Strong customer relationship management skills across multiple accounts.
• Understanding of supply chain operations and basic financial principles.
• Full UK driving licence.

Required skills

• Competent user of Microsoft Office.
