Business Operations Manager

About the role

We are looking for a Business Operations Manager to support the next stage of growth at CGEN Engineering, a University of Edinburgh spin‑out developing high‑torque, low‑speed generator and motor technologies for the wind sector. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will bring structure and coordination to a fast‑moving engineering business.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Managing Director and senior team in project delivery and operational planning.
• Coordinate grant reporting, board reporting and company administration.
• Maintain and improve internal quality and documentation processes.
• Facilitate cross‑departmental communication and follow‑through on actions.
• Support the preparation of financial and legal documentation without replacing specialist advisors.

Required profile

• Highly organised, practical and able to work autonomously in a start‑up environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with directors, engineers and external partners.
• Experience in coordinating projects, reporting and operational processes.
• Willingness to contribute to a growing company and adapt to evolving responsibilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
• Familiarity with grant reporting and board reporting procedures.
• Understanding of quality management and documentation standards.

What we offer

• Full‑time permanent contract with hybrid working in Edinburgh.
• Salary £45,000–£55,000 depending on experience.
• Pension contribution from 4 % up to 9 % and eligibility for share options.
