Buyer – Manufacturing & Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Buyer to join a small purchasing team at a well‑established manufacturing business in Basingstoke. You will support the procurement function, helping to secure the best value and quality for materials and services.

Key responsibilities

• Research and identify potential suppliers.
• Compare and evaluate supplier quotations to ensure best value.
• Negotiate commercial terms, pricing and supply agreements.
• Track purchase orders and ensure timely delivery.
• Review quality and suitability of purchased goods.
• Enter supplier, pricing and stock data into the ERP system.
• Prepare cost analyses and procurement reports.
• Monitor stock levels and place orders based on ERP‑driven demand.
• Contribute to purchasing strategies and supply‑chain risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with the small purchasing team to meet shared objectives.

Required profile

• Proven purchasing experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Confident user of MS Office and ERP/MRP software such as OrderWise, Sage or SAP.
• Ability to understand technical drawings, manufacturing processes and engineering concepts.
• Based within a commutable distance of Basingstoke.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

What we offer

• Salary £30,000 – £33,000 per year.
• Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 9am‑5pm.
• 30 days holiday including bank holidays, increasing with tenure.
