CAD Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer

About the role

Join an established engineering business in Reading as a CAD Design Engineer or Senior CAD Designer. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality design solutions from concept through to installation and handover across a variety of projects.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate 2D and 3D technical drawings using AutoCAD, Revit or similar CAD software.
• Design engineered systems in line with client specifications, British Standards and industry regulations.
• Prepare technical calculations, layouts, system schematics and supporting documentation.
• Create technical submissions, budgets and procurement documents.
• Issue as‑built drawings, O&M manuals and project handover documentation.
• Coordinate design activities across multiple projects to meet deadlines.
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and project delivery.
• Support sales and estimating teams with tenders and client proposals.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to incorporate the latest products and technologies.
• Attend client meetings and deliver professional technical support.
• Maintain design records and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and design best practices.
• Mentor junior designers where appropriate.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a CAD Design Engineer, Building Services Designer, Fire Systems Designer or a similar role.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Experience producing detailed technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of relevant British Standards such as BS5839, BS5266, BS7671.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail.
