CAD Designer - Mechanical Engineering

About the role

Our client, a dynamic engineering company in Stroud, is seeking a CAD Designer to lead the creation of new mechanical products. You will own the full design cycle, from concept through to production release, ensuring robust, manufacturable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret customer requirements and specifications to develop engineered product designs.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new products.
• Perform engineering calculations and, where required, conduct FEA analysis.
• Analyse test data, verify compliance with specifications and prepare technical documentation.
• Ensure designs meet relevant codes and standards (API, ISO, PED, ASME VIII) and apply DFM/DFA principles.
• Support continuous improvement, new product introduction and mentor junior engineers.
• Attend internal and customer meetings, providing technical guidance.

Required profile

• Strong focus on delivering designs on time, within cost targets and quality expectations.
• Ability to balance innovation with practicality and cost considerations.
• Ownership of the full design cycle from concept to production.

Required skills

• 3D CAD design (solid modelling)
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Engineering calculations
• Knowledge of API, ISO, PED and ASME VIII standards
• Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles
• Creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering drawings
