CAD/CAM Programmer & Designer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced CAD/CAM Programmer & Designer to join a leading engineering team in Gateshead. Reporting to the Technical & Quality Manager, you will create manufacturing‑ready designs, develop CNC programmes and support new product introductions, ensuring high quality and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Create and optimise CNC machining programmes using CAD/CAM software.
• Produce 3‑D models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Develop and maintain product and assembly designs in SolidWorks.
• Use Rhinoceros 3D for complex modelling and customer‑specific requirements.
• Generate production‑ready artwork, engraving files and technical graphics with Adobe Illustrator.
• Support the transition of new products from concept to production, defining tooling and setup instructions.
• Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturability.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity and cost reduction.

Required profile

• HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Product Design or Production Engineering.
• Proven experience in a CAD/CAM role within an industrial environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work hands‑on.
