Calibration and Test Technician

About the role

Our client, a specialist manufacturing firm in South Shields, is seeking a skilled Calibration and Test Technician on a permanent basis. You will work on the shop floor assembling, repairing, calibrating and packing products to exact specifications while maintaining high quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble products according to approved drawings and specifications.
• Repair and calibrate equipment following company procedures.
• Pack finished products in line with quality and safety guidelines.
• Interpret simple wiring diagrams and perform basic PCB testing and fault finding.
• Update the MRP system (Odoo) accurately after each operation.
• Maintain tidy workspaces and ensure all tools and equipment are fit for purpose.
• Support other departments on the shop floor when required.
• Participate in internal and external training and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• GCSE/NVQ Level 2 or higher.
• Minimum five years’ experience in a mechanical, engineering or production environment.
• Experience in a regulated industry and in small‑to‑medium sized companies.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures.
• PC literate with basic computer skills.

Required skills

• Soldering (through‑hole, basic SMD, wire‑to‑wire).
• Operation of machine‑shop equipment such as lathe, pillar drills and bench grinder.
• Drilling and tapping of metal components.
• PCB testing and fault finding.
• Understanding of simple wiring diagrams.
• Use of Odoo MRP system.
