Calibration Engineer

About the role

As a Calibration Engineer you will ensure that customer measuring equipment is calibrated to the highest metrological standards, supporting both ISO9001 and UKAS accreditation requirements. You will work within a technical team to deliver accurate, traceable results for force, torque and dimensional instruments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform calibrations of force, torque and dimensional measuring instruments using approved procedures and good metrology practice.
• Maintain accurate certificates, records and worksheets, ensuring timely completion.
• Participate in UKAS and customer surveillance audits and internal cross‑comparison audits.
• Carry out periodic measurements of laboratory standards and develop measurement‑uncertainty budgets.
• Produce and audit both automated and manual calibration procedures for laboratory use.
• Provide technical support to colleagues and adhere to health and safety policies.

Required profile

• Technical qualification such as HND, HNC or NVQ/BTEC Level 3 or higher.
• Strong understanding of calibration practices, theories and ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
• Experience working in a customer‑focused environment.
• Ability to work independently, manage workload and interpret technical specifications.

Required skills

• Calibration of force, torque and dimensional measuring instruments.
• Measurement uncertainty budgeting.
• Knowledge of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (and Word).
• Use of laboratory automation software.
• Interpretation of technical specifications and drawings.
