About the role
The Cancer Tracker supports cancer teams by navigating and tracking all patients who are referred urgently to the service. The role involves communicating with staff across all hospital departments to minimise delays and ensure a smooth patient pathway. It also contributes to meeting the national 62‑day waiting time target for urgent cancer referrals.
Key responsibilities
- Identify patients who may breach the national 62‑day waiting time target from urgent referral to first treatment, take appropriate action and escalate to the relevant management team.
- Provide accurate information for a weekly report submitted to the Health Board and the Scottish Government.
- Support cancer teams by tracking urgent referrals, coordinating with hospital staff, and ensuring delays are minimised throughout the patient journey.
