Carding Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Carding Maintenance Engineer to join a fast‑growing textile manufacturer. You will be responsible for keeping carding lines operating efficiently, ensuring high‑quality web formation and minimising downtime. The role offers the chance to relocate to the South West and work with specialist equipment in a process‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on carding machines.
• Respond to mechanical and electrical breakdowns across carding lines.
• Diagnose faults on cylinders, strippers, doffers, workers, lickers‑in, feed systems and delivery sections.
• Perform alignment, clearance setting, tensioning and fine adjustments to maintain fibre flow and web quality.
• Work on machinery such as Trützschler, Spinnbau, Herguth, TAM or similar carding equipment.
• Support rebuilds, strip‑downs and card clothing changes as required.
• Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality issues and improve machine performance.
• Contribute to root‑cause analysis, asset care and continuous improvement activities.
• Share knowledge with apprentices, fellow engineers and operators.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience with carding machinery (standard cards, strippers or equivalent).
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and strip‑down ability.
• Good electrical awareness (motors, sensors, drives, inverters).
• Experience in textiles, non‑wovens or fibre‑processing environments.
• Ability to work independently and diagnose machine performance issues.
• Understanding of web formation, fibre movement and carding tolerances.

What we offer

• Salary of £60,000 per year.
• Up to £8,000 relocation support.
