Caretaker – Community Cleaning & Safety

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated caretaker to keep our residential estates in Thamesmead clean, safe and welcoming. Working independently, you will be the first point of contact for residents and ensure communal areas meet Peabody’s Gold Standard.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain high‑level cleanliness across indoor and outdoor communal spaces, including litter picking, sweeping and waste management.
• Respond promptly to emergency cleaning situations and carry out routine inspections to identify repairs, defects or graffiti.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as lighting checks and minor repairs.
• Manage waste collection, recycling and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
• Provide friendly, professional service to residents, handling enquiries related to caretaking.

Required profile

• Previous experience in cleaning, caretaking or facilities services.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and good communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously, use initiative and pay attention to detail.
• Physical capability to lift bulky items and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required skills

• Health & Safety awareness.
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
