Caretaker Operative – Full‑time (Brighton)

About the role

You will be the frontline presence for residents, maintaining communal areas, performing basic repairs and supporting the safety and cleanliness of the neighbourhood. This full‑time position works Monday to Friday, 8 am‑4 pm, with occasional out‑of‑hours standby duties.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine inspections of blocks and communal spaces, fixing minor defects promptly.
• Monitor estate services such as grounds maintenance and cleaning standards, reporting concerns.
• Support fire‑safety compliance, perform basic maintenance and light gardening.
• Assist with fly‑tipping removal, nuisance reduction and broader community‑safety initiatives.
• Maintain a visible, approachable presence, engage with residents and direct them to support services.
• Participate in an out‑of‑hours standby rota with additional payment.

Required profile

• Confidence dealing with challenging behaviour and staying calm under pressure.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and excellent attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH regulations and manual handling procedures.
• Experience collaborating across teams and within local communities.
• Clear communication skills and adaptability to different people and situations.
• DBS clearance will be required.
