Carpentry & Joinery Assessor – Middlesbrough

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Assessor in Carpentry and Joinery to join our team at Middlesbrough College. You will manage a caseload of learners, support them through apprenticeship standards and ensure successful completion of their qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and oversee induction and initial assessments to set realistic learning priorities.
• Develop individual learning plans in liaison with employers and monitor progress towards completion targets.
• Maintain strong relationships with external partners, local employers and agencies to recruit and retain learners.
• Provide guidance to learners and employers, promoting timely achievement of SMART objectives.
• Support learners to achieve Apprenticeship Standards and prepare them for End Point Assessment.
• Assist with full‑cost courses such as NVQs where required.
• Contribute to the design and delivery of structured schemes of work and lesson plans.
• Conduct health and safety risk assessments for employers and potential employers.

Required profile

• Proven experience assessing carpentry and joinery learners, preferably within an apprenticeship framework.
• Strong knowledge of apprenticeship standards, NVQ qualifications and health & safety regulations.
• Excellent communication skills for liaising with learners, employers and external partners.
• Ability to manage a minimum caseload and meet organisational targets.
