Casualty Solicitor

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Casualty Solicitor specialising in Employers’ Liability and Public Liability to join a growing insurance practice in Essex. The successful candidate will manage a demanding defendant caseload and provide commercial legal advice to insurers and corporate clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of defendant EL/PL personal injury claims, including litigated matters.
• Advise insurers and insured clients on liability, quantum and coverage issues.
• Draft pleadings, witness statements and schedules; oversee disclosure and expert evidence.
• Conduct negotiations, settlement discussions, Part 36 offers and mediations.
• Instruct and liaise with counsel and experts where appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with CPR, pre‑action protocols and client SLAs.
• Support junior team members and contribute to team development.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales.
• Strong experience in EL/PL casualty claims, preferably in a defendant insurance environment.
• Proven ability to manage litigated matters with supervision.
• Sound understanding of liability, quantum and procedural issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commercial and pragmatic approach to legal problem‑solving.
