Catchment Operator

About the role

South West Water is seeking a Catchment Operator to join its Treatment team in Plympton, supporting safe and reliable wastewater services across the South West of England.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain multiple wastewater treatment works within the catchment.
• Carry out on‑site monitoring and routine maintenance to ensure compliance and protect the environment.
• Respond promptly to site conditions, alarms and customer queries.
• Store and handle chemicals in line with COSHH, QMS procedures and health‑and‑safety standards.
• Use the iSCADA control system for monitoring and control.
• Follow schedules, business rules and standard operating procedures.
• Liaise with colleagues across the business to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Participate in a 1‑in‑5 week standby and call‑out/weekend rota once training is complete.
• Travel throughout the region and assist other zones as required.

Required profile

• 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and a Science subject.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends on a rota basis.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Required skills

• Experience using the iSCADA control system.
• Competence with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
