Category Manager

About the role

This is a full‑time Category Manager position based in Reading, working within a company that values continual improvement, innovation and sustainability. You will join a close, supportive team and play a key part in managing product categories and supplier relationships to maintain the high level of service the business provides.

Key responsibilities

• Develop short‑, medium‑ and long‑term category plans.
• Identify new products aligned with market trends and review existing portfolios.
• Assess new suppliers for financial and operational suitability.
• Negotiate prices and trading agreements with suppliers.
• Interpret sales reports and forecast future demand.
• Hold regular meetings with existing suppliers to manage the category.
• Achieve budgetary targets both individually and as part of a team.
• Deliver optimal pricing to sales teams and manage divisional relationships.
• Ensure best practices are applied across portfolios.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an FMCG environment, preferably with multi‑site exposure.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret data and predict sales trends.
• Demonstrated negotiation skills for complex contracts.
• Target‑driven mindset with a focus on achieving budgets and results.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
