Catering Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to support the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. This long‑term sickness cover position offers the chance to work in a busy healthcare environment, delivering safe and nutritious meals to patients, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing, packing, labeling and storing meals, snacks and beverages following portion‑control and presentation standards.
• Support the preparation of allergen‑sensitive and texture‑modified meals.
• Serve food and beverages in line with hygiene and safety procedures.
• Carry out HACCP checks, temperature monitoring and complete food‑safety documentation.
• Maintain cleanliness of workstations, equipment and catering areas, including scheduled deep‑cleaning.
• Adhere to infection‑prevention and control protocols.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure timely meal delivery and provide courteous service.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a catering or food‑service environment.
• Flexibility to work rotating shift patterns (07:00‑15:00, 11:00‑19:00, 12:00‑20:00).
• Ability to work five days a week and adapt to a rota provided up to six weeks in advance.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food‑safety standards.

Required skills

• Level 2 Food Hygiene certification
